Mathematics is a field that extends beyond a series of procedures as it taught far too widely these days. My stress is on conceptual understanding, as it is the key to understanding the subject. Even moreso than the procedures that we have been accustomed to viewing as being the core of Algebra, Geometry, and Calculus, conceputal underpinnings are what the make the subject meaningful. I have no real teaching style as I have never really taught anyone. I have always helped friends out while we were in school together and I would just have to figure out at what level of knowledge they were having a hard time understanding and start to help them understand what was going on from that point on. I like to break every concept and principle down into its most basic components. An artist breaks down a drawing into its basic shapes, and is able to create what may at first seem like a complex object to draw. Explaining mathematical principles is almost as difficult as learning them, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
