As an undergraduate student at both my junior college and university, I was inspired to spread the joy of learning and understanding English. I have earned a BA in Global Studies and Maritime Affairs, which has enabled me to expand my knowledge base about international affairs and the maritime industry. This coming March I will graduate with a MS degree in Emergency Management. This degree has given me a fantastic background in understanding leadership and management techniques. During the past four to five years I have been employed as an English tutor by both the College of the Redwoods and the California Maritime Academy. I have a degree in Biology Education/Science Education from Central Washington University and did hold a Washington State teaching certificate in Biology and General Science until I moved down to California in 2000. My certificate enabled me to teach any secondary school science class. In addition to Biology I have extensive coursework in Physics and Chemistry as well as classes in Astronomy, Geology, Paleontology and other scientific pursuits. I did long-term substitute teaching in Washington along with teaching General Biology at Yakima Valley Community College in Yakima, WA. I enjoy the discovery style of teaching through labs and scientific literature instead of the customary lecture/reading/assessment programs. I also like to provide many different ways for students to be successful.
