I love math, but I am a Chemistry major at MSSU because i didn't find any attractive career as a Mathematician. I tutor a lot, mostly to y friends. Helping Dispel the Fear of Math

I use a variety of methods such as graphically (visual), practice examples (tactile, repetition), repeating the rules/methods (aural) and occasional humor to help things stick!
I recently moved here from California. I have tutored fellow students in high school in Rhode Island, a child, grandchildren, and also tutored folks in California ranging in age from 13-30 in all types of math during the last ten years. Though I do not have a certificate, I plan on getting a temporary certificate in the next few months.

My goal is to use a variety of methods in order to facilitate learning and retention. These methods will vary student-to-student. HOW I teach, however, remains constant for all students. Specifically, I start with the standards: what needs to be learned. Working backwards, I break the standards up into smaller concepts. Once the concepts are explained to the student, and the student understands the concepts, repetition begins in order to facilitate retention. Smaller concepts are then tied into larger ones. In the areas of chemistry or math, a variety of problems are introduced, along with a logical method for analyzing how to set each up. Then after I felt the individual had grasped the knowledge, have them repeat the knowledge back with minimal assistance. Once the individual has completed an appropriate amount of the new task with the assistance of then instructor, they would then complete or demonstrate the task back to the instructor with no help at all. If they provide the correct answer or demonstrate the correct knowledge, they have completed the required learning.
