I love math, but I am a Chemistry major at MSSU because i didn't find any attractive career as a Mathematician. I tutor a lot, mostly to y friends. I can help in pretty much any general subject like math, philosophy, drawing, painting, geography, and some English as well. I speak English, Gujarati, Hindi.I had my friends tell me that i should be a teacher because they like my teaching style. I think as a student i understand how to explain what they don't understand because i can put myself in same sue as the other students. If there is anything more you would like to know just contact me. I will be happy to answer any question.

Helping Dispel the Fear of Math

I recently moved here from California. I have tutored fellow students in high school in Rhode Island, a child, grandchildren, and also tutored folks in California ranging in age from 13-30 in all types of math during the last ten years. Though I do not have a certificate, I plan on getting a temporary certificate in the next few months.
I use a variety of methods such as graphically (visual), practice examples (tactile, repetition), repeating the rules/methods (aural) and occasional humor to help things stick!

A Little Bit About Me...

As an administrator of a school I oversaw the education of children from Kindergarten through twelfth grade. I have eight years experience teaching algebra I, five years teaching business math. I have eleven years experience teaching English grammar from third grade through twelfth grade. I have taught fourth grade for three years, fifth grade for three years and sixth grade for two years.
My goal in teaching is to provide the student with the tools to discover and learn new concepts and to apply this knowledge to the learning process. I do not beleive in giving answers, but rather helping the student learn how to find the answers. I am very patient and will go over a concept until it is understood by the student. I enjoy children who are eager to learn, but try to instill a desire to acheive.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe teaching is best learned though practical examples (especially math). because I used to say the same thing that I'm sure that kids today are saying. When am i ever going to use this in my daily life? Its important to let them see the applications from knowing calculus based formulas to predict market declines (algorithms), to basic math in in inventory work, to understanding complex words and their proper sentence usage so they can understand what rudimentary or neophyte means in a job interview. Also, its important to inspire. most of the children/ teens in a tutoring course have been discouraged due to the fact that they are not picking up on a subject as quickly as their peers. That why its understandable that if they have someone to look up to, as i did, in a particular course they tend to do better and go beyond what they though originally possible.

My goal is to use a variety of methods in order to facilitate learning and retention. These methods will vary student-to-student. HOW I teach, however, remains constant for all students. Specifically, I start with the standards: what needs to be learned. Working backwards, I break the standards up into smaller concepts. Once the concepts are explained to the student, and the student understands the concepts, repetition begins in order to facilitate retention. Smaller concepts are then tied into larger ones. In the areas of chemistry or math, a variety of problems are introduced, along with a logical method for analyzing how to set each up. The end goal is to achieve an acceptable level of mastery of the subject.
My educational background is in chemistry and chemical engineering. My professional experience is in manufacturing, specifically in the area of specialty ch ... read more

While pursuing my Bachelors Degree in Accounting at Missouri State University, I was a substitute teacher for grades 1-12 at two local schools. Through this experience I obtained a great understanding of various student learning styles and effective teaching methods from numerous teachers and numerous students. I then secured a position with one of the top 10 public accounting firms in the country. After obtaining my bachelors degree I advanced within that firm and then took advantage of an opportunity to obtain additional knowledge of the overall accounting process through a medium sized local firm. I am currently continuing my career while also pursuing a Masters Degree in Accountancy in addition to sitting for the CPA examination.

Obtained in my last job, showing an individual a three step process when learning something new. First would be to show and instruct on the basic level. Then after I felt the individual had grasped the knowledge, have them repeat the knowledge back with minimal assistance. Once the individual has completed an appropriate amount of the new task with the assistance of then instructor, they would then complete or demonstrate the task back to the instructor with no help at all. If they provide the correct answer or demonstrate the correct knowledge, they have completed the required learning. I would then test them on the material and encourage the individual to go back so the knowledge is fresh on their minds.

Earlier on in my college education, my plan was to apply to Law School at MU, the university I was attending at that time. To apply, one was to have a Bachelor's degree in the area of their choice. I have always been fascinated by people . . . the way they think, how they learn, why they do what they do, etc., so I chose to major in psychology. Toward the end of my Bachelor's degree, my husband and I started a family, and the more and more I thought about things, the stronger I felt about choosing a career that was more conducive to family life . . . so I changed care ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My recent personal experiences have helped me to develop a heightened sense of compassion and an appreciation for teaching. When I volunteered to teach Mathematics and Business Studies (Commerce, Accounting and Economics) in the summer of 2008 in St. Patrick High School in Kenya, I learned to appreciate the teacher’s experience. Interacting with my students and my fellow teachers inside and outside classroom, allowed me to develop a great deal of compassion for the teacher-student relationship. I now have a greater appreciation for teaching, and I value being able to apply it in a classroom setting.
Aspects of teaching that appeal to me the most are the fast-paced learning setting which offers the benefits of teacher and student time, the continuity of care, and the pleasure of seeing students learn over time. I enjoy the versatility in balancing direct teaching and mentoring, inte ... read more

I believe every child can learn anything, it is just a matter of understanding how each child's brain functions. Some students learn by example and repetition, while some need hands-on activities in order to process the main concept and remember it. I do believe that every student needs plenty of practice in order to maintain the knowledge of each lesson. I believe this practice should include guided practice as well as independent practice so that I can understand each student's thought process. I prefer tutoring rather than a classroom setting so that I can better accommodate each student's needs. I am a very caring person and I care extremely about the confidence level and personal goals of each and every one of my students.
