I first find out your true objective for learning the material. Is it a requirement and not in your field of study so you just want to pass the class or is this a part of your passion or career and really want to know the nuts and bolts of the subject. I will adjust accordingly and make out a plan. I will also figure out the best way to teach you the material and from there we will have a plan to accomplish the targeted goal.
I have a lot of experience not only in fields that you may need help learning, but I also spent time during college tutoring classmates as I was in the class and developed a style to help students learn quickly and also reinforce the concepts. I understand the student to determine the best learning style for you and I make the transformation teaching you the material in an effective manner.

Learning can be fun!!

When tutoring, I strive to make lessons engaging, effective and enjoyable. Specifically, I tailor lessons according to an individual student's needs and involve students in a dialogue by asking questions that provoke thought, conversation, and perhaps humor. Because facts and figures are easily looked up in the information age, I place particular emphasis on thinking and on "learning how to learn". My teaching goals for any student are threefold: 1. learn the material (well!) 2. pass the test/subject (with a comfortable margin!), and 3. enjoy it (most challenging with math!).
I love learning and teaching alike. My first teaching experience was in high school when I helped teach inner city children how to swim. Following high school, I earned a bachelor's degree in genetics at UC Berkeley, during which time I worked as a teacher's assistant for a genetics professor. While in m ... read more

My comments on tutoring GED : I had worked with students from a variety of cultural backgrounds in alternative schools preparing them for the GEDs. I have also been part of the exam process.

I am very aware of the necessity of adapting my teaching style to the learning modality of those I am working with. As an educator I evaluated students to define how they best process information. They may be auditory learners, visual learners or they may use a combination approaches. I am very patient and understand that everyone can learn. I believe in setting goals and evaluating progress to establish new goals when necessary.
I have taught in Michigan and in California. I also have credentials as a school counselor and psychologist. I have experience with all aspects of the special education system from the K through grade 12 level. This incudes testing, placement and re-evaluation and the IEP process. I also have worked at the post secondary level and am familiar with academic and financial aide requirements.

As a Merchant Marine and Chief Steward I have taught, tutored, or mentor kids of all ages and backgrounds. My passion when teaching is to try and breakdown the subject to it's most basic level. A level that the person being taught can understand. Having work with kids from different ethnic and educational backgrounds I find this to be very affective and productive. Also, not having been a great student in high school with dyslexia, I have been able to over come these short comings and graduate from collage with honors.
Find out what level the student is at, what their interest are, what the like about learning or hate about learning and go from their. As each person is different and each person learns in their own way. Learning is not hard, finding out how to learn is.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that all students can achieve academic success, even in their least favorite subjects. However, everyone learns in different ways with sundry motivations. Many students require some one on one time with a qualified teacher, who will both identify the student’s learning style and adapt their teaching style accordingly. I also believe that a student’s confidence in their abilities will play into their success. A skilled teacher will tailor lessons and feedback to build on skills a student does have, instilling confidence and encouraging the learner to meet the challenge of complex topics.
With over 17 years of teaching experience, I realize the impact that one on one tutoring can have on a student. My classroom experience includes secondary math and English, and my tutoring experience includes basic math, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, algebra 2 with trigonometry, SAT prep ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate in the field of Education, I have found my true passion in helping students reach their goals and achieve success. I have been working with children in different capacities from the preschool environment to the K-12 level, including working with students with developmental disabilities. Last school year I worked tutoring students who produced low test scores in order to help them raise their achievement test scores. I really enjoyed watching the students raise their comprehension skills in various areas such as; math, language arts, reading, phonics, etc. I believe my extensive background working with the youth of today would make me a great candidate to join your company!
Through my experiences working with children, I have learned to adapt my teaching styles to fit each students' individual needs. Many students learn through visual and tactile means, where as o ... read more

Fair, firm and consistent are my mantras of classroom management. In that, I believe that all children deserve a safe, clean, engaging, yet structured environment in which to meet their full potential. I firmly believe that learning is a team affair, and practice the standards of cooperative learning.
For the past year-and-a-half, I have worked as a long-term substitute teacher for the Palm Springs Unified School District, acting as the virtual teacher of record in dedicated classrooms on several occasions. Inherent in that experience, I developed lesson plans and graded student work, as well as liaised with parents and administration. More About This Tutor...

I consider my ability to observe and adapt to situations that may not be considered ordinary as an advantage. Through education, I have developed techniques that enhance my analytical and critical thinking skills. My closest linguistic “friends” in life are How, What, When, Where, Who, and Why. With their help and the help of others, I know I will succeed as a teacher and student. I am a perpetual pupil and will remain so until the end. I also draw upon my experiences as a husband, parent, son, brother, friend, and associate when assessing interactions and conversations with those individuals I come into contact with on a daily basis. We are all here and together for such a short time, and time is an irreplaceable asset. Therefore, it only stands to reason that moments of learning should not be wasted. I consider teaching to be a privilege as well as a serious responsibility, and I will ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

After working at Outdoor Science School for the last two years, I have changed in the ways I approach children and their learning. There are so many different learning styles, as there are many different children. Each child learns in a unique way and I believe that if we take the time to know the child, we can change the way we approach teaching them. My experiences have taught me to be fluid in my teaching style.
I began tutoring as a high school student and throughout college I continued to tutor privately. I hired on at a tutoring agency in October of 2000 and was with them for almost 4 years. I continued private tutoring after leaving the agency and also worked briefly as a tutor during an off track period. I have tutored in many subjects, including English, mathematics and various other subjects at different levels. I have worked with students K-12 as well as adults.
