I have been an elementary school teacher for nearly 18 years. I taught for 7 years in Elk Creek and 10 years in Los Molinos where I currently teach 2nd and 3rd grade. I always try to be very patient and supportive when I'm tutoring. I am a strong believer in the Socratic method of teaching, which from my understanding, means asking the student questions regarding what they already know about a concept in order to customize the lesson and/or "lead" them to the answer. I think that it is important to make sure that the student understands the concepts being learned in each subject rather than learning how to do one particular problem. Too often students forget the basics that they learned before because they thought that they were finished only to find that it comes up again in a more advanced subject. My goal is to get students to understand and apply the concepts to different situations other than the ones that are directly in front of them at the moment.
