Experience Summary
I have completed a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with a double option in Accounting and Finance, as well as a second major in Economics, from California State University, at Chico (CSUC). I was an academic tutor for the Student Learning Center at CSUC for two semesters, where I attained an advanced level tutoring certificate from the College Reading & Learning Association. I have also been a private academic tutor for two additional semesters since leaving the Student Learning Center. The CSUC Accounting Department and several Accounting professors at CSUC continue to recommend my tutoring services to their students.
Teaching Style
I always try to be very patient and supportive when I'm tutoring. I am a strong believer in the Socratic method of teaching, which from my understanding, means asking the student questions regarding what they already know about a concept in order to customize the lesson and/or "lead" them to the answer. I also try to use analogies and real life examples that are tailored according to the interests of my student. For example, if my student is interested in sports, then I try to use sports analogies and examples to describe difficult concepts. If my student is interested in science, then I use science analogies and examples, etc. I also try to break down complex concepts into smaller "pieces" so that I can help my student analyze and understand the concept one piece at a time. It is a well known fact that there is a direct relationship between the average educational level of a nation, and the standard of living in that nation. So I believe that one of the best ways to make a contribution to my country (and to the world in general), is to help people of all age groups with their educational pursuits.
