I am preparing to graduate in the spring of 2011 from Mississippi State University with a special education degree. I have studies pedagody and methods for two years with a range of experiences in all types of classrooms. I will be a highly qualified teacher in the spring. I have been in a classroom since I was conceived. My parents are high school science teachers. I have studied a variety of subjects, and I have a deep content understanding of math and science. I have tutored college students in anatomy and physiology and college algebra. I am a whole brain power teacher. Most of my experience is with exceptional children from a range intelligence. Intelligence is relative, and it is the teacher's job to highlight a student's strengths.

I have always wanted to be a teacher. I began tutoring while I was still in high school. I earned my BS in Elementary Education in 1980. I have tutored students of all ages in different subjects. Most of my tutoring experience has been in math and reading. I have tutored students for all sections of the Alabama High School Graduation Exam. I have been a homebound and home-school teacher, as well as a classroom teacher. I love to help children learn! It is so rewarding to see the reaction of a child who suddenly understands what he has been trying to learn. I try to help my students build confidence in themselves by helping them realize that they do have the ability to learn. I want every child to know he is loved and special.

Since undergraduate work, I have worked in the business world, primarily in the manufacturing arena. My academic experiences have continued on some level. In times past I tutored high school math students in North Carolina. I am proficient is equations, inequalities, Cartesian Coordinate System, polynomials, factoring and functions. My style focuses on the processes in arriving at a solution. The learning goal in mathematics is to impart understanding of the process of working toward a solution, not attaining the solution. In mathematics as many other endeavors, it is how we proceed to a goal that is important, not the goal itself. The achievement at the end is the result of making the correct choices during the journey to the end.
