American History is one of my top subjects!

As an adjunct faculty instructor at the University of North Alabama, I teach students in a public speaking course through a series of class lectures, individual and group activities, live performances, examinations, and out of class assignments. I work on skills such as audience and situational analysis, research, organization, delivery, body language, and listening. My goal is to make my students more at ease with public speaking by teaching them how to be successful at it in a variety of situations. My activities and assignments are meant to challenge their critical thinking skills while improving their performance skills and help me to offer more individualized instruction. I have always wanted to be a teacher. I began tutoring while I was still in high school. I earned my BS in Elementary Education in 1980. I have tutored students of all ages in different subjects. Most of my tutoring experience has been in math and reading. I have tutored students for all sections of the Alabama High School Graduation Exam. I have been a homebound and home-school teacher, as well as a classroom teacher.
I love to help children learn! It is so rewarding to see the reaction of a child who suddenly understands what he has been trying to learn. I try to help my students build confidence in themselves by helping them realize that they do have the ability to learn. I want every child to know he is loved and special.

I was educated at UAB for a degree in Political Science and English. My English and grammar skills are impecable. I also obtained an MBA from UAB though my greatest business experience was actually working as a banker for fifteen years. I have a passion for helping youth through my church and have four daughters of my own.
I believe in teaching something until I see the "light come on". I don't take their word for it that they understand it. They must demonstrate to me that they understand it by working through the most difficult problems in the area that I am instructing.
