I offer weekly one-of-one sessions that last from 2 1/2 to 3 hours each. The sessions are $150 per session (NOT per hour). My average student adds 18 points to their score after 10 weekly sessions. One-on-one sessions cost LESS with me than GROUP sessions with Kaplan, TestMasters, and others.

I am generally flexible, seeking to find what works best for a particular student. My wife and I once hosted a French teenager with the understanding that I would teach him a series of English lessons during his stay. It quickly became apparent that his language skills far exceeded the pre-planned lessons, so I instead developed new lessons on the fly. I try to make sure my students thoroughly understand the central concepts of a subject by showing them how it works and why it matters. After they have that grasp, I try to move on to less important but more entertaining areas. I enjoy helping others understand concepts that they are struggling with. It is very gratifying when a student has that "a ha" moment. I am a little strict with instruction. If a student is not paying attention or has not completed an assignment that I've asked him/her to do, I will not overlook it. When I begin tutoring a new student, my first objective is for us to get to know each other. The student will not be able to receive very much from me until he/she is comfortable with me. Once they feel that I care, they open up and the learning really begins! When I really get a feel for the personality and whatever particular challenges are unique for this person in this class, I am able to determine the best way to communicate the subject and improve the skills. I like to think outside the box to find the best way for that student to have that "got it" moment!
