I am kind of new to teaching. I have taught my little brother everything he knows, and I've been told I have a really good way of teaching. Younger students catch on very quickly to what it is I am teaching. If they don't catch on quick, then no problem. I'm very patient and never give up until a student understands the concept. I am very easy to get along with, so the student will have no problems with me. Altogether I am a very patient smart person eager to help new students learn; and if you want to have fun while learning, then I am the perfect tutor for you.

A Little Bit About Me...

Having homeschooled my children (eldest is attending a top 20 public university)and volunteering extensively in the school community, I have become familiar with a wide variety of learning styles. My legal background has prepared me for tutoring in that I am able to effectively communicate with the student and present the material in a manner conducive to a learning experience(similar to explaining legalese to a lay person). Above all, I strive to ensure that the student has a true understanding of the materials, as opposed to simple memorization. I strongly encourage the student to take an analytical approach to learning, and to view both sides of any issue so that true understaning of the subject matter is achieved.
In a one-on-one situation, I prefer dialogue. Assuming the student does the assigned work before the session, I find that a informal, relaxed conversation on the ... read more

When I teach I also learn from my students. I am open to ideas and creativity. I am patient and I believe a child should never be forced to learn. Learning should be exciting and it is the right of a student to progress at his or her own pace.
I graduated with a degree in English while devoting time teaching kids and even adults martial arts. Also, I have tutored many of my younger cousins during their elementary school years and currently middle school as well. I have published two poetry books and am planning on writing a third book. I have a tremendous amount of love and passion for reaching out to others. I believe we will always be students, after all, we continue to learn each day. I grew up building computers, designing web pages, capable of typing over 100 words a minute, repairing computers and so forth. I don't have any certifications or awards with computers, however, i ... read more

My first aim when I am working with students is to establish a rapport - being a college student always helps. I am patient in the classroom and try my best to tackle problems/questions from new angles if students don't seem to understand; I have spent much time working with non-native English speakers, which has enabled me to develop an intuitive sense of where a particular misunderstanding might originate. I find students write best when they respond to personal dilemmas or questions, and teach that reading and writing are one of the best ways to become empowered citizens. I believe students benefit most from seeing how the written word functions in the real world on both individual and community levels.
I have been an avid reader since I was a boy, and have excelled in all manner of reading, writing, and literary analysis classes. I currently hold both an AA and BA in English an ... read more
