A Little Bit About Me...

I feel I am able to translate to the student a better understanding of material, so that they are able to grasp the essential meaning of the subject and work with it. This was my motivation into entering the study of wine, both personally and collectively, so that I could make others aware and enlightened by a subject. I believe that most subjects are not difficult to master. Most problems come from "under learning" the subject. Repetition may work for some subjects, but with math the student needs to understand WHY a process works. Once this is learned, the rest comes rather easily. When the student takes for granted a way to solve a problem, they are lost when the problem is presented in a different way. But, if the student understands the WHY, the presentation of the problem does not matter.

I like to break every concept and principle down into its most basic components. An artist breaks down a drawing into its basic shapes, and is able to create what may at first seem like a complex object to draw. Explaining mathematical principles is almost as difficult as learning them, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Teaching in groups and teaching individually both have their advantages and disadvantages. Teaching one-on-one allows the student to have individual attention, while teaching in groups allows more flexibility and allows students to learn concepts from each other. I consider myself able to do both, but one-on-one often works best.
