I am a teacher of great experience. Having taught in the private and public schools, I have been given opportunities to work with a variety of achievers - from handicapped to gifted. I have tutored in all academic subjects except higher high school and have an amount of expertise in the reading area. I have a B.S. in education from Union College in Barbourville, KY, and a M.A. as a reading specialist from Cumberland College in Williamsburg, KY. I enjoy teaching and working with children. After graduating from MTSU, I went to Prague, Czech Republic to train and work as a teacher of English as a foreign language. I secured a position at Bell School International. Here I taught mostly adult students but I also had a few high school classes. I found it was more satisfying teaching the younger students and so I looked for work at the elementary level. At Horackova Elementary, I taught 6th to 9th grade English. I had a great rapport with all the students and enjoyed planning for the array of levels and age groups. However, I was the only teacher there who spoke English and felt alienated from the school. As a result, I made the difficult decision to return to the United States. When getting my Bachelor's degree, English was my chosen major. I chose the subject because I love to read and write, and excel at both of those things. In high school and college, I tutored middle and high school - aged children. I was able to find and help those kids because my parents were teachers; thus, so were their friends who needed tutors. While completing my undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering at University of Idaho, I was often called upon to tutor people within the building where I lived during college. After graduating from the University of Miami, I taught Kindergarten, a 3rd/4th grade combination, 6th grade, and computers/technology. I have always loved children. Children are precious and all have very unique learning techniques. When I was a senior at Maryville High School, I taught Spanish to first graders. My partner and I were in charge of making lesson plans and fulfilling these plans for each class. I really enjoyed seeing the children get excited about learning.
