I like to get to know the child, what they are having trouble with, and what their homework and study habits are. Throughout my 12 years of schooling Math has been one of my stronger subjects. I also took a two year accounting course outside of my school. I feel this qualifies me to help children out there that struggle with math. It would be great to start with younger children to improve their knowledge and study skills to get the grades they want to see on their report card.

My experience suggests that students must participate to fully benefit from the teaching and learning experience. This implies that they must be interested in the subject. Therefore it is, in part, the teacher's role to engage the students and guide them in a manner that engenders their interest. Beyond this I have found that students respond best when their strengths are recognized and their efforts rewarded. To maximize effectiveness it is also necessary for the teacher to determine the learning style of each particular student and to provide lessons that allow students to learn in the manner most comfortable and effective for them. Working with younger children and teens has always been fun for myself. I think it's good to get to know the student on somewhat of a personal level. This allows for you to understand how the student thinks and learns, since every student learns differently. I am a very patient person and I try to find the best possible learning approach. I recently graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in Civil Engineering in December 2009, which has given me a very strong mathematical background. I have completed courses through Calculus III, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra. I have worked with children at the local boys and girls club, which included children in grades 4-10.
