A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and tutoring children of all ages. Although I have only formally been tutoring for about 6 years, I was a tutor all through my childhood helping other children learn when I finished with my classwork. Since first grade I have always wanted to be a teacher, although my brain tried to steer me in a different direction in college. Yet, my heart brought me back to teaching. I am very considerate of every child no matter their weakness; however I play close attention to their strenghts and play off those strenghts in the classroom. As a special education teacher, I am required to possess patience. I feel I have a great deal of patience, as I taught students with moderate to severe disabilities. My teaching style was one in which I developed creative ways to achieve specific life goals. Age appropriate materials and activities were a must in my classroom and although a student may have been learning his/her colors, I would use functional things to teach them such as road signs, rather than the common elementary objects such as balls, counting bears, etc. I believe that all students are handicapped, some just more so than others. If I can make a difference in just one students life, I have helped a generation.

With my numerous experiences in education, I think I could be a great asset in helping students become more knowledgeable. I have worked as a Tutor, Assistant Teacher, and did a short placement as an Interim Teacher. I can easily adjust to changing environments that will best suit the student’s potential. I was a Tutor in an after school program, and was an Assistant Teacher in a Special Education classroom. I finished an Interim Teaching placement in a middle school A.P. English classroom.
