Elementary Phonics is one of my top subjects!

I have a BSED in ASL/English from Valdosta State University as well as a minor in music. I also studied Voice for 2 years from Appalachian State University. I currently have a VQAS level 1 in ASL. And an SLPI Intermediate. (2006). I have been in numerous honors and all-state choirs and orchestras as the principle flute player. I have played flute for 20 years. I have experience using the Ready2Read program for sight reading help and the Spell to Write and Read program for phonics. I am a homeschool mom of preschool and elementary age children. A Little Bit About Me...

I am a special education teacher and have worked with a wide range of students with various abilities as well as disabilities: mental retardation, learning disabilities, emotional disorders, and autism. I remediate students with and without disabilities who have done poorly on SOL tests as well as struggling readers. I have taught all subjects at the middle school level and am highly qualified to teach English and math as based on No Child Left Behind (NCLB). I have tutored for 2 years in the afternoons in all subjects, but main concentration being in middle school English and math.
I believe that all children can learn but they don't all learn the same way. A Little Bit About Me...

I am a graduate of Virginia Tech, with an interior design degree. I have taken many english and science classes. Also writing is a strong area of mine, since I have had to write many papers and essays. I worked at Blacksburg Daycare and Child Development Center for 4 1/2 years. There I taught all ages from 6 weeks to preschool. I also have children of my own.

A Little Bit About Me...

I really enjoy being around kids and helping them learn new things. When you teach a kid something and they finally get it, the sight of their face lighting up is priceless. I believe that one should teach using a variety of methods because all kids do not learn the same way and each individual method shows something new each time. I believe that all kids can learn so much if they work as hard as they can and put forth maximum effort. I think it is very easy to learn/teach using as many hands on examples as possible.
