A Little Bit About Me...

I have spent several years as a student and tutor at the university level. I am planning to enter medical school in the Fall of 2012 and as such have developed a strong foundation in the sciences throughout my undergraduate education. Although I majored in Biology, my true passion is Chemistry. I spent 2 years on a religious service mission where I became fluent in Spanish. I am fascinated by the ability to communicate with an entirely new group of people. I learned Spanish by being immersed in the culture and have since studied Spanish at the university level in order to understand the "rules" behind speaking the language.
I have been blessed with professors at the university level who understand the importance of one-on-one instruction. Through the "creativity" of thoughtful instructors I have seen myself grow and develop in ways that I hadn't thought possible. Every student lea ... read more

I believe that all children can learn but they don't all learn the same way. It is my job as the teacher to make the lessons interesting and present them in such a way that the student will understand what is being taught. I believe that students need to feel valued and successful and it is my job to help them achieve success in their education and to feel valued as people. I have enjoyed working with middle schoolers which is such a difficult time for so many trying to find where they "fit" in the world. I feel it is my duty to make them feel safe and secure in the setting I provide so they can learn.
I am a special education teacher and have worked with a wide range of students with various abilities as well as disabilities: mental retardation, learning disabilities, emotional disorders, and autism. I remediate students with and without disabilities who have done poorly on ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As the Head Trainer for Order Entry and Customer Service for ten years at J Crew I taught detailed customer service training for new hires. I also implemented and taught the Train the Trainer Program within the Lynchburg, VA Region 2000 community. I created a Remedial Training Program to raise skill levels among associates and taught Telephone Etiquette and motivational training. I also revised the Order Entry Manual to be used for all new hires.
I have been told I have a three dimensional style of training. I teach in a way that every style of student can (eventually) get it. I have taught both children and adults in the various positions I have held through my life (camps, schools, employers and church). Nothing is more exciting than seeing the "light bulb moment" go off on an individual's face!

A Little Bit About Me...

I really enjoy being around kids and helping them learn new things. When you teach a kid something and they finally get it, the sight of their face lighting up is priceless. I believe that one should teach using a variety of methods because all kids do not learn the same way and each individual method shows something new each time. I believe that all kids can learn so much if they work as hard as they can and put forth maximum effort. I think it is very easy to learn/teach using as many hands on examples as possible.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have successfully tutored students of all ages, K-8th grades, in all subjects. I have a nurturing personality that promotes self-esteem and confidence in all my students. However, I also set high standards and goals for each child. I'm firm in focusing them on what needs to be accomplished. I am also practiced at teaching kids who have different learning styles. My focus is to give support by giving remedial help to skills missed in classroom lessons. Working one-on-one provides each student with the quiet surroundings to focus on what they need to meet their potential as a successful student. I feel that my education, experience, and love of teaching will make a big difference in the academic progress of each tutee.

A Little Bit About Me...

Even though I am not currently teaching as my profession, I am still passionate about education and would love to continue to teach/tutor in small groups or one-on-one. I am child focused and believe it is fundamental to begin with the end in mind by determining where the child is at and where he/she needs to go and develop both assessments and lessons accordingly. I am patient with students and enjoy leading them to discovery. I see myself as a "facilitator" of learning and love watching the light-bulbs come on as they grow and take ownership of their own learning. I follow the standard lesson plan: attention getter(hook), teacher model, guided practice, independent practice.
I always wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl. After earning both undergraduate and graduate degree in education, I taught first grade in both public and Christian schools for 5 years. I att ... read more
