As a recent graduate from Radford University, I am anxious to begin teaching. I have spent the last year in a middle school classroom observing and teaching. The first semester I was in the school part time while taking classes at Radford. During this semester I did a lot of observing and moderate amounts of teaching. I am a special education teacher and have worked with a wide range of students with various abilities as well as disabilities: mental retardation, learning disabilities, emotional disorders, and autism. I remediate students with and without disabilities who have done poorly on SOL tests as well as struggling readers. I have taught all subjects at the middle school level and am highly qualified to teach English and math as based on No Child Left Behind (NCLB). I have tutored for 2 years in the afternoons in all subjects, but main concentration being in middle school English and math.

I really enjoy being around kids and helping them learn new things. When you teach a kid something and they finally get it, the sight of their face lighting up is priceless. I believe that one should teach using a variety of methods because all kids do not learn the same way and each individual method shows something new each time. I believe that all kids can learn so much if they work as hard as they can and put forth maximum effort. I think it is very easy to learn/teach using as many hands on examples as possible.
