My classrooms involve learning-centered groups in a workshop approach. I find that students are encouraged by the examples of other writers and learners at their own levels. I provide a great deal of individual feedback on assignments. I encourage the imitation of examples in writing and the discovery of other writing styles. I am sensitive to the needs and learning needs of each student.
I have always been a reader and a writer. In my degree work, I learned how to inspire others to read critically and write well. I have many years experience as a college-level instructor. In the time that I’ve spent tutoring Spanish, what I’ve always found to be true is that in order to succeed, a student needs to have an approach to the material that works for them on a personal level. Whether that means amassing small mountains of flash cards or listening to Spanish-language podcasts or trying to equate Spanish verb conjugations with English, every student has something that works for them. A Little Bit About Me...

When I am teaching I am very patient and try to organize the lesson or my assistance in steps. I'll have the child read the problem or question, ask what they know about it, see if they understand the question and proceed. The patient style helps me see what the student's strengths and weaknesses are so I know what they need to practice and focus on. If the child has multiple assignments or tasks I have them perform the more difficult ones first. Starting with the easy assignments may seem like it makes sense but I would prefer that the student have more energy for the tasks they'll have more difficulty with.

This is primarily accomplished through the use of leading and probing questions, functioning to spark the student's thinking. I also frequently explain technical issues of grammar, and other higher order concerns within papers; they need to be able to understand the problem before they can tackle the solution.
