From February to November of 2010, I worked for a non-profit in Bolivia as both a translator and a tutor in a home for children aged 5-13. When I am teaching I am very patient and try to organize the lesson or my assistance in steps. I'll have the child read the problem or question, ask what they know about it, see if they understand the question and proceed. The patient style helps me see what the student's strengths and weaknesses are so I know what they need to practice and focus on. If the child has multiple assignments or tasks I have them perform the more difficult ones first. Starting with the easy assignments may seem like it makes sense but I would prefer that the student have more energy for the tasks they'll have more difficulty with.

When I traveled to Costa Rica the first time to earn my TEFL certification, I knew that teaching was my vocation.
