The prompt for this box (TEACHING STYLE) is ascinine in and of itself: tutoring-style is what it should read. And, please, forgive me, but either a tutor achieves results or a tutor does not.
I carry diplomas (and who really cares?) from Northern Illinois University in both Political Philosophy and English Literature, yada-yada-yada, and so on and so forth, etcetera, etcetera (graduated 2006). I have written two full-length novels that your children, most likely, will someday be required to read by some god-forsaken English teacher who does not believe in 'fun'. During my high school years I would volunteer to help children through various charities and church. When I attended college I became an Early Childhood Education major and volunteered in preschool and elementary schools. During my Student Teaching in Des Plaines I was in complete control of a Kindergarten classroom and later a 2nd Grade class. After graduating I began working in a daycare where I created activities for children as young as 3 years old and activities and homework help for elementary students as old as 13.

I was taught in my Sweetland Writing Center courses to teach with a non-directive approach, and allow students to do most of the talking and thinking throughout the tutoring session. This is primarily accomplished through the use of leading and probing questions, functioning to spark the student's thinking. I also frequently explain technical issues of grammar, and other higher order concerns within papers; they need to be able to understand the problem before they can tackle the solution. From February to November of 2010, I worked for a non-profit in Bolivia as both a translator and a tutor in a home for children aged 5-13.
