A Little Bit About Me...

Through my years of teaching I have worked with a variety of learners with different needs. I have worked with children with Autism, ADHD, gifted children, and children with strong emotional needs. I have had to approach each individual differently and focus more on the way they learn, and less on the way I teach. I try and approach teaching from a position of equality, in which I can show what I know, and not what my students don't. As an artist, I am an extremely visual learner, and try and use visual aids whenever possible, which I have found work well for most everyone. I have found that there is nothing so rewarding as that moment when a subject 'clicks' for a student. I enjoy working with children, young adults, and adults. Teaching others in any way is beneficial for them and in the long run for me. The most common approach I take to tutoring a student is to first find out the student's learning style (be it visual, auditory, kinesthetic, or a combination), and then work with the student using this learning style. I also like to format the exercises in accordance with the test or quizzes the student is preparing for. I am a very easy going and patient tutor, but I will challenge my students to do their best. I thoroughly enjoy making a difference in the lives of the students I tutor by advancing their education. I recently earned my physics degree. I am taking a few classes at NAU during the spring semester. I have tutored for a semester during my senior year of high school, and have been a physics and mathematics tutor at NAU since January 2009. I have a very strong background tutoring Calculus.

Upon my graduation from high school, my calculus teacher, who had noticed my natural aptitude for mathematics and my ability to help other students to understand it, referred some younger students who had been struggling to me for tutoring. Due to my success with this first student, or rather, the student’s new found success in his math courses, my former teacher referred another student to me the following summer.
