When I teach, I like to focus on the conceptual part of the subject before diving into the problem solving aspect. I believe it is essential to understand the significance of the matter, not just go through the motions. During my time at the University of South Carolina, I was a part-time tutor for the athletic department. There, I provided academic assistance in accounting, college calculus and statistics. I use math on a constant basis, as I interned as an auditor at a public accounting firm in Columbia and was an CoOp analyst for Johnson and Johnson. Math is definitely my strong suit and I've always been able to communicate my knowledge effectively to others. In High School I received 5s on both the AB and BC Calculus Advanced Placement exams.

I was an Industrial Engineering Intern where I used AutoCAD on a day to day basis for plant floor flow and layout. I eventually interviewed perspective interns for their CAD abilities. I was awarded a full time position as a Design Engineer after college. I used Unigraphics every day of my job. I was later promoted to CAD Administrator within the next year. I was the youngest CAD Administrator in the entire company.

I have a BS in Chemistry. I am a very analytical person, science and math come very easily. I scored a 1400 on the SAT (750 Math) so I am eager to help those who want to improve on their score. I am in my last semester of obtaining a Master of Health Administration degree so I have the ability help anyone with the business/administrative side of the specialized industry. I have played guitar since the 7th grade and have performed for many charity concerts during the beginning of my undergraduate career. I find that it is best to begin by getting to know the student, introducing myself, being friendly, and maybe talking about shared interests. This normally occurs over several sessions, but is necessary to keep out the "just another teacher" perspective. While learning, it is important to build subject matter confidence. Since there are often mental blocks or preconceptions in place (particularly in math), I find it productive and beneficial to get students to understand and believe that the work is not impossible. This helps in the transition from "I can't do this." to "How do I do this?". The best way to get there is using a show-tell-do format, where I first demonstrate, talking through examples before guiding the student through examples, then finally giving the student examples to work through solo.
