During my undergrad studies at UWRF, I was sponsored to become a tutor in the Writing Center on campus. There was a prerequisite practicum, but it was very hands-on learning. I worked with students from a variety of backgrounds (ESL, freshman comp, MS candidates, etc). At Metro State I participated in a semester program teaching English in Puerto Rico, for which I received the ESL certification. I also TA'd for Writing and Designing for the Web. I am a very adaptable teacher--I can easily pick up on a student's needs and abilities, and work to their strengths in that way. I enjoy not only helping them learn, but also their backstory and considering how it affects their learning style. I also have an innate love of learning, and feel that it's a great gift to help someone realize their own potential.

As cliché as this sounds - my favorite part of teaching is the satisfaction of knowing I made a difference. I have interacted with individuals across countless backgrounds and understand the idea of each student needing to hear things in their own terms. The simple concept penetrates through my patient teaching style. Some of my favorite ways to connect with students is to create simple analogies using subjects which interest them. My overall personable nature makes it easy for students to talk to me and I can always be counted on for advice (whether it be academic or otherwise). I believe that every child has the ability to be a successful learner, and I enjoy watching my students grow and improve at different paces. My goal is to make each child feel comfortable in their learning environment, while challenging each student according to their level of ability. I respond well to students who become easily frustrated, and adjust my teaching style accordingly. It can only take one teacher to make a difference in a child's educational path.
