During my undergrad studies at UWRF, I was sponsored to become a tutor in the Writing Center on campus. There was a prerequisite practicum, but it was very hands-on learning. I worked with students from a variety of backgrounds (ESL, freshman comp, MS candidates, etc). At Metro State I participated in a semester program teaching English in Puerto Rico, for which I received the ESL certification. I also TA'd for Writing and Designing for the Web. I am a very adaptable teacher--I can easily pick up on a student's needs and abilities, and work to their strengths in that way. I enjoy not only helping them learn, but also their backstory and considering how it affects their learning style. I also have an innate love of learning, and feel that it's a great gift to help someone realize their own potential.

As cliché as this sounds - my favorite part of teaching is the satisfaction of knowing I made a difference. I have interacted with individuals across countless backgrounds and understand the idea of each student needing to hear things in their own terms. The simple concept penetrates through my patient teaching style. Some of my favorite ways to connect with students is to create simple analogies using subjects which interest them. I recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin River Falls with a BS in Marketing Communications. My minor area of study while at River Falls was Psychology, and over the course of my college career, my interest in the topic has developed into a career goal. I plan to return to UW River Falls this Fall to earn a Mater's degree in School Psychology. For the past six years I have taught and coached Swimming and Diving lessons to children ages 4-16.
