My comments on tutoring Marine Biology : Was a Marine Biology minor in college. I also worked for over a year and half as a Marine Mammal Biologist.

I obtained a B.S. in Biology, with a concentration in aquatic science, from Wittenberg University in 2006. During my undergraduate studies, I tutored elementary students in math and science twice a week for two years. After college, I moved into the marine science profession. In August of 2008, I started teaching High School Biology I, Earth and Space Science, and Physical Science to students in Polk County. In addition, after school hours were spent with two students taking AP Biology classes. Both students achieved a 4 or higher on their placement exams. My tutored students reported an increase in their ability to record class notes, study, and take tests. My previous tutoring experiences have included subjects such as; elementary science, elementary math, Algebra (I & II), Geometry, Pre- Calculus, Anatomy, Physiology, Biology (both College and HS level), HS Chemistry, basic w ... read more

During my year as an AmeriCorps VISTA at the Earth Ethics Institute, a non-profit organization at Miami Dade College, I was responsible for the successful execution of five high-profile programs. I strengthened my ability to multitask and was able to effectively implement each program’s components at their full potential and capabilities. I became accustomed to working independently under strict deadlines and overseeing many service-learning college students who assisted with events. As many of these service-learners regarded me as a role-model, I committed myself to bringing out their full potentials while mentoring them through their college experiences. I was considered the unofficial technological assistant of my workplace due to my proficiency at Microsoft Office and my ability to work at an exceedingly fast pace. In addition to this, my co-workers often request that I overview ... read more

15 years experience in a broad variety of subjects!

I have been tutoring for over 15 years both in students homes or at public locations such as coffee shops or the public library. My education and experience are broad. I was educated at "Ivy League" level schools and purposefully educated myself in a large variety of the humanities, which in essence all tie together. Basic courses up through most High School material outside of the Humanities are not difficult. Actually, while my education has been primarily in the Humanities, the material I see the most in tutoring is Algebra and Geometry!
I have a way of perceiving the difficulty the student has, and am able to explain the material in a simple way that makes it easy for students to grasp. I have a good rapport with my student and have had several that have told me that I am the best teacher they have ever had(which didn't hurt my ego!!) I also have a good sense of humor whic ... read more

Academics have always been important to me. I received a BS in Food Science and Nutrition, and then a doctorate in Chiropractic, Magna Cum Laude. I have been teaching online, as well as on-campus classes, for the past year now, and I love it. I have been primarily teaching anatomy and medical terminology classes, but I have a real passion and ability for math, also. In addition, I am great at editing papers for grammar, spelling and word usage. I enjoy teaching and showing others ways to learn and remember certain concepts, that would otherwise be very difficult, or intimidating.
I love teaching because it is fun and rewarding for me to help someone else get where they are going. I love to see when the light bulb flips on for a student, and they finally understand something that had previously been lost to them. I try to engage all of the learning styles that various students woul ... read more

I like the child to feel comfortable with me to where they are at ease and readily ask questions. I prefer to ask the student leading questions to aide them in coming to the conclusion on their own as opposed to simply telling them information. After a few questions have been answered then I am able to help them with the details of problem and a help them build a method for solving similar problems in the future.
I have a BS degree in Interdisciplinary Natural Science and a Minor in Public Health. I worked for USF Housing and Residential Education. I also was a Peer Leader for Chemistry where I was basically a Teaching Assistant and led two sections by myself.

Learning can and is fun! As a child my family made learning an ongoing process of discovery through nature, crafts, musicals, concerts, theater, museums and reading. I believe that one never stops learning and that everyone has something they can teach you if you open yourself up. Learning is best done through discovering and sharing your discoveries with others. It would be my hope to instill this passion to learn reguardless of the subject matter! I also know that not every approach of method will work for everyone. The secret is finding the way overcome the hurdles so the mastery of the subject occurs without unneeded stress and self defeat. I am confortable working with all ages from 1 year olds to senior citizens.

A Little Bit About Me...

I'm about to start my last semester at University of Central Florida to get a BS in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. I feel that my background in psychology helps me better understand the best ways to help different students understand the material. I've tutored students in FCAT reading and also assisted a kindergarten class and have helped several students with special needs. I also have a strong background in general education classes.
I've always been interested in helping children. I have a background in cognitive learning and learning skills that can provide a student with a unique and efficient way to understand the material they are struggling with. I'm patient, but determined to help children achieve their goals.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love helping students learn and discover new interests. I understand that people learn in different ways and I am capable of adjusting to each child's style. I am personally a visual and tactile learner so that is where I typically start and then adjust to each child.
During my time at UCF, I was a teaching assistant for Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy and a tutor for Ecology. I have also published research in invasion plant biology and have spent time performing underwater research in Roatan, Honduras. I have a strong understanding of biology and the related fields and good written or oral communication skills.

I received my BA in Psychology from the University of Central Florida, with a 4.0 GPA. I began mentoring youth with the Key Club during my sophomore year in high school, and I have been volunteering with multiple agencies since then. I enjoy teaching children and am knowledgeable in several subjects, with science being my strongest. As a Junior Achievement volunteer, I instructed third graders in economics, discussed careers and college education, and helped students understand difficult concepts. Currently I am an Educator at SeaWorld, where I share presentations on a wide variety of animal information with the general public.

More About This Tutor...

I have always been very curious and interested in the world around me. These natural curiosities lead to my love of science and math. My bachelor’s degree is in Laboratory Science and I have a special post-bachelorette certificate in Physiological Sciences. With my commitment to be a life-long learner, I have completed advanced course work in Earth-Space Science, Biology, Chemistry, Animal Sciences and Anatomy & Physiology. This background leads me to teach general sciences in many public and private schools. While in the classroom, I became very interested in the science behind the reading process. Once again, my curiosities lead me to another area of specialty and certification. I am now endorsed to teach ESOL and Reading students in K – 12 classrooms. I have worked with reluctant readers one–on-one for two years and have seen them reap the rewards in all subject areas. I am now end ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

During my time at University of Florida, I tutored at the student academic support center for many subjects including physics I and II, inorganic chem I and II, organic chem I and II, biology I and II, and Calculus I. I helped students there for a year and a half.
I make sure that students completely understand the subject instead of just memorizing it. I do this by explaining the subject in multiple ways and focusing on the method that the student seems to understand the best. I take the responsibility of teaching very personally and make it my goal to make sure they are learning, understanding, and advancing.
