Education and continued learning have always been an important part of my life and something I strive to share with future generations. I have two Bachelor of Science degrees, one in Biological Science and the other in Dietetics. While science and math are among my favorite subjects, I also enjoy teaching English and recently had the pleasure of teaching this subject abroad. Over the course of the last fifteen years I have had the opportunity to tutor students in English, mathematics, and science.

I know my students leave our lessons with something more than they came in with and that their lives will be better for it. I am extremely patient, understanding, and kind. A Little Bit About Me...

I am a patient person and teacher. I believe in letting the student think through the problems themselves. And if they need help, I am there for them. But I do not like to simply give them the answer. I want them to learn that they had the knowledge, they just needed to learn how to extrapolate it.
I am a recent University of Central Florida graduate and have a passion for helping others learn. While earning my BS in Biology, I tutored other students in Anatomy, Physiology, Physics, Calculus and most Biology courses.

I like the child to feel comfortable with me to where they are at ease and readily ask questions. I prefer to ask the student leading questions to aide them in coming to the conclusion on their own as opposed to simply telling them information. After a few questions have been answered then I am able to help them with the details of problem and a help them build a method for solving similar problems in the future.
I have a BS degree in Interdisciplinary Natural Science and a Minor in Public Health. I worked for USF Housing and Residential Education. I also was a Peer Leader for Chemistry where I was basically a Teaching Assistant and led two sections by myself.

I was raised in the Montessori teaching environment, so I am very involved with hands-on teaching methods, and relating subjects to real life experiences. I enjoy watching children grow and progress into self-motivated, independent individuals, who are self-confident in many areas. I believe all children no matter what age have the potential to do amazingly well in school and with their education depending on how much individual attention is placed on them, including constant positive reinforcement.
While I was in college I began working as a teachers assistant at a Montessori School, I soon started privately tutoring students after school at the same location. I am a very hard working, organized, and outgoing person. I tutored students in Math, English, History, Behavioral Sciences and also taught private dance lessons.

As a Social Worker, I have gained many skills in working with people. My field has allowed me to gain experience teaching in a variety of settings. I have taught students at the high school level in the areas of health education and general academic support. I had the experience of working as a Coordinator in a bi-lingual school in Guatemala which gave me the opportunity to be in the classroom guiding teachers and modeling techniques. While in Guatemala, I also had the opportunity to teach English as a second language to adults and adolescents. Opportunities through advanced study have given me valuable experience in writing and language study.

I have always believed that a person who is shaping young minds should love what they are teaching to their students. I have a contagious passion for biology that is unyielding, and my students always benefit from this instruction, whether developing a love for it themselves, or simply by succeeding in my classes. I understand the mentality of young adults and am aware of the types of instruction they require in order to succeed. I know how to utilize a variety of strategies to facilitate their understanding of biology and help them reach their full potential. I am currently a graduate student at the Florida Institute of Technology, majoring in Marine Biology. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Florida, with a major in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation, and a minor in Fisheries and Aquatic sciences. I have taught ecology and biology students the last two years in college and high school. I have also tutored students in biology, ecology, marine biology, and in study techniques at the college level.
I feel students learn best when they are engaged and interested in the topic. I think relating a topic in a practical and applied approach helps many students retain and apply the information they have learned. Some students work best with "Hands-on" activities (especially for kinesthetic learners), and some students are visual or auditory learners. It's important for me to provide a healthy mixture of these learning styl ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have had some very patient and supportive teachers and mentors throughout my education, which extended well into my adulthood. As a result, I tend to be very compassionate, understanding, and supportive of the students that I have taught and mentored. I tend to be thorough, provide a constructive learning environment, and motivate students to succeed. I am most proud to have had the experience of getting my lowest acheiving students to become some of the highest achievers and proudest students by the end of the school year. I tend to be able to motivate both the best and poorer performing students to be able to succeed by setting goals and achieving them.
I have enjoyed the opportunity to teach students to excel at several different levels during my career as a research scientist. As a graduate student, I tutored and mentored students in the local middle school science researc ... read more

I love teaching because it is fun and rewarding for me to help someone else get where they are going. I love to see when the light bulb flips on for a student, and they finally understand something that had previously been lost to them. I try to engage all of the learning styles that various students would need, and I don't mind presenting the same information in different ways until the student finally has a true understanding of it. I like to make learning real and fun; I am animated and excited about the material, and I know that energy ignites the students, also. I am encouraging and caring, and that provides a great environment to learn.
Academics have always been important to me. I received a BS in Food Science and Nutrition, and then a doctorate in Chiropractic, Magna Cum Laude. I have been teaching online, as well as on-campus classes, for the past year now, and I love it. ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

The students of today will be the first generation to collaborate on a global scale and it will be necessary that they have an understanding of cultures other than their own if they are to succeed. This is where I feel that having knowledge of history and current events plays a crucial role. I believe that to truly know where you are going you have to understand where you have come from. I fully intend to give my students the experiences they need to become knowledgeable partners in the global community.
The two main philosophies I try to live my life by are giving back more than what has been given to me, and always leave something in better condition then I found it. Life has not always been an easy road, but through hard work and determination I have risen above any adversity life has presented. I believe the juxtaposition of these philosophies with the leadership skills acquire ... read more

I have taught middle and high school students science since 1987. I have a BA in Biology and am certified to teach high school biology and chemistry and middle grade science. I recently completed level 1 and level 2 of my reading endorsement courses, and have used that while I tutor elementary students in reading.
I am a hands-on type of science teacher. I believe that there's more to learning than just from the book, so to speak. My goal is to give students the help that they need with which to succeed. I like to teach via real life examples and real life applications. I truly believe that students who read succeed, so I also have a great interest in helping the younger students succeed with reading.

I believe that you have to be very hands on and provide more than one style of teaching. One needs to be able to teach for the visual and auditory sensory by being able to provide visuals but then also to describe the material in multiple ways.
I would aid as an assistant tutor in many of my undergraduate classes and help lead study groups before test. I would also review the test in a post test study group to help people understand why they did not fully understand the question either how it was worded or if they just completely missed the question all together but ultimately help prepare for a midterm or final. Since my mother is a high school science teacher I would also go into her classroom and help her in the classroom and lab to be able to help provide the students more one on one attention and elaborate and simplify some of the material that was being taught.

I've always been interested in helping children. I have a background in cognitive learning and learning skills that can provide a student with a unique and efficient way to understand the material they are struggling with. I'm patient, but determined to help children achieve their goals.
I'm about to start my last semester at University of Central Florida to get a BS in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. I feel that my background in psychology helps me better understand the best ways to help different students understand the material. I've tutored students in FCAT reading and also assisted a kindergarten class and have helped several students with special needs. I also have a strong background in general education classes.
