Elementary Special Education Teacher

I have been teaching students with many different special needs for the past 19 years. My experience ranges from students with severe developmental delays to students with emotional disabilities. My experience has mostly been with students who have learning disabilities. I also have son that has an IEP for learning disabilities and is thriving now in school. I have worked with students ranging from kindergarten to 8th grade.
My teaching style is student centered. I try to figure out what work best for each student and go from there. If a student has a learning stye that is very hands on then I will try to make sure a portion of my lesson is tactile. It is not always easy but I strive to differentiate to meet all of my students' learning needs..

Education is a large part of who I am. I have earned two Bachelor degrees, BS in Human Development and Family Studies as well as a BA in Sociology. I initially worked in the field of social work upon graduation which gave me great insight into family life, sociological influences, and the impact of socio-economic factors on education.
