My comments on tutoring Drawing : As an artist, I am able to work with students on the technical skills and methods of drawing or their overall approach. I have taken many drawing classes and would be delighted to share what I have learned with others!

I have tutored a wide variety students on many subjects. I am most experienced tutoring high school students for the SAT. I worked with Let's Get Ready, a non-profit organization dedicated to preparing high school students for the SAT and their college search process. I typically tutored students for the Math section, but I am capable of tutoring for the Critical Reading and Writing sections as well. Some of my other tutoring experiences have been with middle and high school students. I have tutored several students in math, from middle school level general math to high school Calculus I. Research shows students who fail often have less background knowledge, remember less, their attention wanders and they lack automaticity, the ability to recall basic facts. I have a tool box full of research proven strategies that work. Discovery learning is not what kids in remediation need. I really like working with children from low income families. I think each child has a different interest and way of learning. I try to discover these learning styles before I begin the tutoring process. I try to allow them to be comfortable and having fun during our sessions. Most of the time I do a lot of question/conversation responses to allow them to find the answer for themselves. I like a problem based learning style, even for the youngest of children. My teaching style is geared more towards each individual child. Some are auditory learners, some learn just by watching and still others require tactile stimulation in order to learn. I generally use a combination of all three focusing on the one that is strongest for each individual child. I believe with patience and understanding all children can and will learn. I graudated from Oberlin College in 2005. My coursework included not only music instruction classes, but also general education courses. During my time at Oberlin I worked as an ESL tutor. After graduation I moved to the country of Ecuador to serve as a music and English teacher. After returning to the U.S. I was employed as a substitute teacher in Florida.
