I really like working with children from low income families. I think each child has a different interest and way of learning. I try to discover these learning styles before I begin the tutoring process. I try to allow them to be comfortable and having fun during our sessions. Most of the time I do a lot of question/conversation responses to allow them to find the answer for themselves. I like a problem based learning style, even for the youngest of children. I not only want to teach them how to properly concur their learning material but how to find the information they need if they do not know the answer. Additionally, I want them to have fun and enjoy quality time with a supportive mentor and gain an enthusiasm for school.

I have also raised two daughters, one graduating from Fordham University magna cum laude and completing her Master's Degree in Social Work from Hunter College summa cum laude. My youngest child, recently graduated with honors from Boston College where she had a full scholarship for the entire 4 years. I am currently enrolled in the graduate engineering program at the University of Florida, in which I plan to graduate in the spring of 2012. I enjoy working with people and I have a strong background in numerical analysis. I have taken the GRE, ACT, and the SAT. Scores were high above the national average for math and at about the average for the written portion. I do have experience in writing research papers and laboratory reports, all in the field of civil engineering.

I love working with children for the past 7 summer I have been a counselor at a resident summer camp for kids, we always have a great time. My teaching style is patient, calm, and considerate. My teaching style would be best described as creative and improvisational. Because I work with students from such varied backgrounds, I believe that the best method is one that allows for flexibility and at the same time incorporates lessons from several fields at once. For example, in both my GED and ESOL courses I incorporate music into my lesson plans. I find that music is an excellent avenue to explore contemporary topics that can then lead to essay topics. At the same time, song lyrics are poetry and can be studied as such.
