I am graduating with my Bachelor's degree in Sociology at Tennessee Technological University of Cookeville, TN. I transferred from a 2 year community college in Harriman, TN known as Roane State Community College. Before starting college, I graduated from Rockwood High School in Rockwood, TN, where I never made lower than a B or a high C in some of my harder classes. I started taking college classes in my Senior year of high school and I was always in the advanced Math classes up until that point. I'm a quick, fast learner and always strive to be better in what I do. Right now, my major at TTU is in the concentration of Social Work, in which I hope to become a high school guidance counselor or a counselor in practice. After graduating from MTSU, I went to Prague, Czech Republic to train and work as a teacher of English as a foreign language. I secured a position at Bell School International. Here I taught mostly adult students but I also had a few high school classes. I found it was more satisfying teaching the younger students and so I looked for work at the elementary level. At Horackova Elementary, I taught 6th to 9th grade English. I had a great rapport with all the students and enjoyed planning for the array of levels and age groups. However, I was the only teacher there who spoke English and felt alienated from the school. As a result, I made the difficult decision to return to the United States. I am very passionate about working and helping students. I have the approach that all students can learn and be strong in any subject, but some students learn differently than others. Some students just need a different approach to certain areas, and more one-on-one help. However, I do believe that the student also has a responsibility to try to better oneself and not depend on someone to give them the answers, but this does not mean that they do not need a little help along the way. I am very easy going and patient. I strive for the moment when a student feels that they cannot do something or figure something out, and then they do figure it out or understand. The feeling of accomplishment and reward on their face is great.
