I enjoy working with students and watching their growth and development academically. My approach to each student is different because I understand each will need a different approach. Initially with each student I identify his or her strengths and weaknesses with the material. While building on their strengths, I attempt to change their perspective towards the course material that seems difficult. In the early seventies I was a tutor for a Canadian third grader through Operation Share at Mesa Community College San Diego Ca where I was studying elementary education. From 1985 through 1987 I worked at a domestic violence shelter often working with the children of abused women to help them stay current in school. Most were elementary school age. During that time I also volunteered for C.A.P.P (Child Assault Prevention Project) which taught elementary age children techniques avoid physical and sexual assault. While working on my undergrad I was given the opportunity to be a teaching assistant for a freshman college level film theory and design class. During this opportunity I was responsible for grading the daily work of our students, as well as being a resource for the students design projects. I taught lectures based on film theory and design, as well as specific pieces of film.
I myself am a visual and auditory learner, so I am very open to all types of teaching styles. I find that people learn better when several avenues of learning are available for a subject.
