I taught high-school math for 14 years, everything from Pre-Algebra to Calculus, in both public and private schools. I also have extensive writing experience, including for many newspapers, and am currently teaching Political Science at the Community-College level. Thus, I could tutor math, and/or any subject or assignment that required verbal and writing skills. I tutored UTK athletes in math and philosophy, and proctored Pre-Calculus at UTK as well.
My teaching style can be called old-fashioned: the best results come from patient, focused, disciplined time on task. To learn math one must work a variety of problems, and practice them diligently. This can be different for every student, and the tutor needs to adjust to the student. A tutor has to be able to do this or the student will not be any better off. It is my firm belief that I need to find a way to connect with each student, and find a way to help them understand what they need to learn.
