I am a firm believer that strict memorization does not allow the student to broaden their ability to solve problems of various flavors. I encourage the student to understand the concepts to avoid tedious memorization. Additionally I believe children learn best in an environment where they do not feel intimidated or nervous. This can be different for every student, and the tutor needs to adjust to the student. A tutor has to be able to do this or the student will not be any better off.
