While living overseas in both Ukraine and Mexico I taught ESL through a non-profit organization for 4 1/2 years. In addition to teaching beginning, intermediate, and advanced classes to students of all ages, I did extensive one on one tutoring with students, and eventually conducted all new teacher training. In Ukraine I volunteered at an orphanage where I taught Bible lessons to children who suffered with mental illnesses, learning disabilities, and other consequences of severe abuse. I have earned a BS in Human Development and spent time in college volunteering 4 semesters at the Children's Hospital in Austin and at Sims Elementary. At Sims Elementary I worked on reading and writing with first and second graders who are bilingual. I currently work at Children's Medical Center Dallas where I serve as a child life specialist. I provide preparation and support during procedures/surgery, assess development, organize and facilitate therapeutic playrooms, and provide diagnosis education for hospitalized children and their families.
