My comments on tutoring Math : SAT math tutoring

In contrast to many of the other tutors, I would not presume to even imply that I could teach your student either math or English in a few hours of tutoring. What I can do is teach your student to be very 'test wise', teach them some easily applied techniques that will get them successfully past most of the math/geometry problems, teach them how to use the grading bias to score well on a less than stellar composition, and teach them how to find the 'key' to the reading comprehension questions.
I have been teaching the SAT for the past 12 years [part time]. For the first five years I was an classroom instructor for Studyworks, Inc. [competitor of Kaplan and Princeton]. When Studyworks left California, I continued by tutoring the brothers and sisters of my classroom students. I started in the teaching field by instructing Vietnamese how to speak English in French. My teaching is going to be lecture based style; cover one or two topic per time, and lecture until students understand thoroughly. There will be some homework, but for review purposes.
I am currently a high school student; however, I will be attending to a community college from June, 2014. A Little Bit About Me...

Learning requires practice, so I emphasize practice to mastery, following Kumon. In tutoring, it is usually the case that the students can learn most of the subject without a tutor, but that each student who has difficulty has a difficulty not shared by most other students, hence not covered in class or homework. For tutoring, I learn what the students can already do well, what they can do with difficulty, and what they can't do yet, and I learn what is limiting their next progress. That is where I focus our efforts. Most of what you can learn in mathematics you can teach yourself by following the teacher's guidance and reading the textbook. My main goal is to teach you how to teach yourself, and to instill in you a confidence to rely on your teaching yourself more and more. My goal is for you to learn to learn without needing my help.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy "de-coding" mathematics to those who naturally stuggle with basic concepts from algebra to calculus. I use principles of mathematics in my day-to-day life, so being able to communicate the importance and "real-life" scenarios with students can be helpful in illustrating it's applications. Lastly, my family consists mainly of 2 professions: physicians and teachers. In order to give back to the community, I believe that I have the responsibility to use my talent and personability in order to help struggling students excel in their educational endeavors.
When I graduated in 2006, I began an entry level career as a credit analyst. The technical analysis did not bother me, but the lack of social interaction did. I changed careers and joined a private wealth management firm, educating affluent investors as to which investments vehicles best fit their objectives. I have 2 ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe each student is different and as such, each should be handled differently. My more than six years of tutoring experience provided me extensive background on students characters and approaches in better presenting the subject matter. At the end of the day, it is important that the student has learned and is ready in tackling subject topics.
Since I graduated with a BS in Environmental Science, I had been a high-school tutor for more than 6 years helping students in the subjects of Math and Science, specifically, Algebra, Geometry, Physics, and Biology. I handled, on the average, 8 students daily - some in groups while others individually. I have learned to understand each student's needs and characters and the approaches in dealing with them. I now have a Masters Degree in Accountancy and believe in the importance of education in one's life. I would like to continue helpi ... read more

As a student at a small Jesuit Liberal Arts college, earning a Bachelors of Arts and Science in English and Biochemistry, I have come to fully understand the way in which each individual can and does influence the education of others. For more than five years, I volunteered as a religious education teacher for my church. I, though responsible for more than three hundred students on some occasions, discovered my passion for teaching. I developed creative ways to keep teenagers engaged and excited about the material. I took this enthusiasm and utilized it when I began to tutor high school and college students in algebra, calculus, chemistry, biology, and English. I have privately tutored for four years now, and can honestly say that I truly find it a rewarding experience.
I believe that education is essential. Still, I recognize that my education has never been the consequence of my ... read more
