My comments on tutoring Pre-Calculus : Completed with a B in Spring 2013 and have a better understanding after completing Calculus Part 1.

My name is Kevin Guevara and have been a college student for 3 years now, and am pursing a career in Electronics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. Just obtained my Associates Degree in Math & Science. 3.18 combined GPA in College, 3.34 Transferable GPA. I plan on attending Cal Poly Pomona, CSU Fullerton, or UC Riverside next fall 2016.
I like to explain and show the student how to complete a problem. I do this 2 more time with different questions and then proceed to see if the student understands how to complete it on his/her own. I am open to most styles of teaching if a preferred style is requested.

Learning goes much deeper than memorizing then eventually forgetting. Learning comes from conceptual understanding of material, building one concept on top of another. I believe that every student has the capacity to learn anything, given they have the basic fundamentals. I prefer to teach using a Socratic method approach, (a means of learning in which the student figures out concepts on their own, with the simple aid of questions). If I do notice a student does not understand a concept in the way I am describing, I try to provide a different means to convey the message. I use various teaching styles that coincide with different learning styles, i.e. tactile, auditory, and visual learning styles, and can use each effectively.

I have been tutoring and teaching mathematics up to and including calculus while I was in college to the present day. most students that I have tutored I find to have a minor miss-perception of what they have failed to comprehend. To find these areas of confusion I need to have discussions with the students. These problems are usually easy to overcome once the student is aware of a different perspective. I enjoy helping students overcome these hurdles and go on to succeed in math.
I have taught with lecture and with physical objects that I have created. My teaching style will vary with what the student needs. Some students need a manipulative to see the concept. Others need to hear or see it in another way. Adapting my style to fit their need is one of my strong points.
