My comments on tutoring Marine Biology : Was a Marine Biology minor in college. I also worked for over a year and half as a Marine Mammal Biologist.

I have always approached a teaching lesson as a learning opportunity. Learning is a fundamental skill. If you don't have your basic fundamentals, your student will have difficulty advancing. So, I always start with basic fundamentals such as; note taking, study skills, and comprehension! All sciences demand the ability to link concepts together. Ex. cells make up tissues, tissues make up organs, organs make up organ systems,etc.....! By understanding the make-up of cellular structures and relating that to tissue functions the students can fully understand a subject. This proves true with all subjects. By impowering the student with good base fundamentals, my students find it easier to link concepts together.
I obtained a B.S. in Biology, with a concentration in aquatic science, from Wittenberg University in 2006. During my undergraduate studies, I tutored elementary students i ... read more

During my year as an AmeriCorps VISTA at the Earth Ethics Institute, a non-profit organization at Miami Dade College, I was responsible for the successful execution of five high-profile programs. I strengthened my ability to multitask and was able to effectively implement each program’s components at their full potential and capabilities. I became accustomed to working independently under strict deadlines and overseeing many service-learning college students who assisted with events. As many of these service-learners regarded me as a role-model, I committed myself to bringing out their full potentials while mentoring them through their college experiences. I was considered the unofficial technological assistant of my workplace due to my proficiency at Microsoft Office and my ability to work at an exceedingly fast pace. In addition to this, my co-workers often request that I overview ... read more

15 years experience in a broad variety of subjects!

I have been tutoring for over 15 years both in students homes or at public locations such as coffee shops or the public library. My education and experience are broad. I was educated at "Ivy League" level schools and purposefully educated myself in a large variety of the humanities, which in essence all tie together. Basic courses up through most High School material outside of the Humanities are not difficult. Actually, while my education has been primarily in the Humanities, the material I see the most in tutoring is Algebra and Geometry!
I have a way of perceiving the difficulty the student has, and am able to explain the material in a simple way that makes it easy for students to grasp. I have a good rapport with my student and have had several that have told me that I am the best teacher they have ever had(which didn't hurt my ego!!) I also have a good sense of humor whic ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am an Elementary Education Major at the University of Florida and have helped many students succeed in all subject areas, with a strong focus on Elementary Education. Some subjects that I particularly tutor in include: math, science, english, social studies, and language arts. I also supply a student with supplemental material I feel will help them learn better and at their own, individual pace. For instance, I believe that some students may learn better through visual exercises, and them others may learn through auditory (hearing) exercises. Either way, I try to figure out what a students learning style is and work on that with a student.

During my senior year of high school, I took four advanced placement classes to prepare for college. I was always the one who would help other students in my classes even into college. I graduated college and worked for four years. This helped me learn more about report writing and even helping people understand things that were out of their element. I enjoy helping people and sharing my understanding of learning.
I am patient, relentless, very mellow, and extremely nice. I will make certain the subject is understood whatever it takes. I am imaginative which allows me to develop very and many different ways of explaining things. I know that anybody can understand something if they get the right help.

I instructed middle school and high school students for over 12 years before I became certified as a school psychologist in 1998. I have subsequently instructed at the college level since 1998 in the areas of psychology and teacher education. I am a tenured Full Professor. I also continue to complete psychological evaluations for our college's students through our Student Disabilities Service Office.
As a psychologist I understand what it takes to transfer information and get it to "stick" in our central nervous system (brain). After understanding some things about the person I would be tutoring I would then develop a plan to present information to them (in a multimodal manner)that would easily associate with their particular "past environment." The material would be usually presented in a highly visual manner augmented with auditory and some hands-on instruction.

A Little Bit About Me...

I started my career as an Electrical Engineer working for the Catholic Diocese in St. Louis, Missouri. As part of my requirements, I was asked to teach technology workshops to the Nuns and Brothers at the different Houses throughout the Metro St. Louis area. In so doing, I was encouraged to go back to college and secure a degree in Education; I was told I had a gift for teaching. As such, I now hold a BEd in Elementary Education and Special Education Mild/Moderate Disabilities. I also hold a Masters Degree in Educational Technology and a PhD in Learning Theory & Design. I have taught Middle School Special Education for 6 years and worked as a University Professor for 8 years.
I believe that authentic learning experiences are the most powerful. Each of us learns differently and for different reasons and we all have disabilities; some are just easier to see than others. Any true ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

From my own experiences as a student I have come to the opinion that the most valuable educational accomplishment one can achieve is to “learn how to learn”. This seems to be a state of mind, an epiphany if you will, which hopefully will be realized at some point in the course of an individual’s intellectual development. Such a state of mind is not usually due to the efforts of a particular instructor, nor is it the result of having taken a certain class. Rather it represents an ideal culmination of the educational process. Maybe, some would say it is the moment when the Scholar is born. Perhaps it is the moment when the true Student emerges. As instructors we may never know if we have ever contributed to such a moment of realization in a person’s life, but it is nice to think we can and it is nice to try, and over all that’s my philosophy of teaching. On a more specific level I have fo ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

While earning my degree in physics at the University of Central Florida I found that tutoring was an excellent experience for both my students and me. I have tutored many different subjects including math(from algebra to differential equations), astronomy, physics, chemistry and biology. I taught middle school students through presentations of physics in films. I also aided my student in their research papers and power point presentations as I feel comprehension and writing skills are an important part of science. I truly enjoyed doing this and hope to continue tutoring and teaching.
Throughout my years of tutoring I have found that there are many different ways that people learn. Once you figure this out learning is easy and enjoyable. I first go over what my students have been doing to learn and study the material. Once we have established their individual learning style, we go o ... read more
