I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Chemisty with a minor in statistics. As an undergraduate, I tutored middle-schoolers in science and math as a volunteer at a local school. I was recently a substitute teacher, teaching all ages and in areas such as the biological sciences, algebra, calculus and psychology. I currently tutor a college student in mathemtics.

A Little Bit About Me...

While earning my MA in English at California State University, Fresno, I spent two exciting years teaching beginning college writing. I chose to teach the class for students who did not pass the entrance exam for Fresno State because I enjoyed working with the diverse, and primarily ESL, students who populated these classes. I also spent three years tutoring many terrific students there in reading and essay writing. I don't think there is a better feeling then to see a student be proud they were able master something they thought impossible. If I had to say what method I used to teach students, I would have to say that every student is different, and that what works for one may not work for the other. I would say my approach would be to first understand what may be causing them to struggle, then working from there to teach them to be confident in their ability, and providing the appropriate tools needed to succeed.

As an undergrad, I excelled in the arts, history and social science courses. However, I lacked interest in math (I didn't get it) and failed college algebra two times! My goal was to graduate college and I decided to seek help. I came across the tutoring center on campus and found a tutor that changed my perception about math!
