A Little Bit About Me...

As a design student, and throughout my life, I have held the ability to grasp new concepts in multiple subjects with very little difficulty. I have used this skill to assist classmates in better understanding difficult subjects mostly in mathematics, science, and computer applications. My bachelors of fine arts degree in interior architecture has enabled me to become proficient in subjects such as geometry, trigonometry, drafting, CAD, perspective drawing and rendering, environmental science, art history, and computer applications in PC and MAC. Within the last few years, I have tutored in mathematics, reading, CAD, sociology, and psychology. Recently, I passed the CBEST exam and obtained my Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit.

I gained a variety of skills including, counseling, communication, discipline, motivation, teamwork, and importantly, patience. Although teaching students has its challenges, I learned that patience, flexibility, cooperation and accepting the uniqueness of each individual play a vital role. Helping children is the most important, challenging, and rewarding task in my life. Children who grow up in a caring, nurturing, educational atmosphere help them to develop the confidence, self-esteem and knowledge to become happy, successful young adults and members of the community. I firmly believe teaching our children and assisting with their development is vital to their future. I am content to motivate and encourage all children.

A Little Bit About Me...

I first discovered my love for teaching in high school. I excelled in many areas and helped my fellow students learn. As I furthered my education, my passion for teaching grew and my style changed. I have molded my favorite, and most effective, professor's techniques into my own hybrid. I use humor and compassion to develop the student's understanding. I try to teach to the student and not at them. I teach study habits that will help them learn more effectively on their own.
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Chemisty with a minor in statistics. As an undergraduate, I tutored middle-schoolers in science and math as a volunteer at a local school. I was recently a substitute teacher, teaching all ages and in areas such as the biological sciences, algebra, calculus and psychology. I currently tutor a college student in mathemtics.

I don't think there is a better feeling then to see a student be proud they were able master something they thought impossible. If I had to say what method I used to teach students, I would have to say that every student is different, and that what works for one may not work for the other. I would say my approach would be to first understand what may be causing them to struggle, then working from there to teach them to be confident in their ability, and providing the appropriate tools needed to succeed.

Beyond the subject matter and what I will be teaching, I have to spend some time getting to know the child. If I do not take the time to make them feel important and show that they have value, then the teaching part is meaningless. A relationship has to be established not only between a teacher and a student but, between two human beings. I like creating a safe environment where students feel comfortable enough to ask the most basic questions and ask for help on challenging problems. My job is to encourage, support and cheer on their efforts in the learning process. I enjoy being creative with my teaching style and will often have students "think outside the box" when learning a new task.

As an undergrad, I excelled in the arts, history and social science courses. However, I lacked interest in math (I didn't get it) and failed college algebra two times! My goal was to graduate college and I decided to seek help. I came across the tutoring center on campus and found a tutor that changed my perception about math! In brief, my tutor was out going, patient and tried various techniques to help me learn the material. I passed college algebra with an "A"! As your tutor I will strive to accommodate your learning style to assure you reach your academic goals. I am patient, flexible and fluent in both English and Spanish.

A Little Bit About Me...

Over the course of my career, I have taught a wide variety of courses for age groups K-12 which include: English, math, history, geography and English as a second language. I am quite comfortable with classes of different sizes, at different levels, and with various teaching styles. I incorporate the tactile, visual and auditory teaching methods. I have also taught adults to read in the adult literacy programs at many libraries. Some believe classes should be teacher-centered, where the teacher is expert and authority in presenting information. Others take a learner-centered approach, viewing their role as more of a facilitor of student learning. I do both.
I have taught at Porterville, Tulare and Palmdale libraries. I hold a full time designated subjects Career Technical Education Teaching Credential. Teaching is my passion. I am patient, kind and punctual. My specialty is t ... read more
