Trigonometry Tutors & Teachers for Lessons, Instruction or Help in Zwingle, IA

I have taught mathematics in grades 3 through college. I especially enjoy working with high school students and college algebra and trigonometry students. Since my retirement from college teaching I have been tutoring at Sylvan Learning, teaching some grade school math, algebra, geometry and ACT prep. I especially enjoy working one-on-one with students because I am able to concentrate on his/her weaknesses. I like to use manipulatives and concrete examples whenever possible. After introducing a concept I work out examples with the student, then have him/her work through several examples while I watch and, finally, have the student work independently on a set of problems. If there are still errors I try to approach the concept from a different perspective and then repeat the process.

During the last five years, I have tutored students in Latin, advanced high school Mathematics, high school Chemistry, and English. In addition to my tutoring experience, I taught Latin language and American History for one year in the parochial Terre Haute, IN school district. I tutor in a problem-solving manner. I assess weak areas and focus on improving cognition and reproduction in these areas. I help the child develop study skills that are important to success, such as routine formation and usage of flash cards and other study aids.

I am a firm believer that most students may dislike subjects they may not completely grasp. I focus on foundation skills, real life examples, and making the material relevant for students. Keeping material fresh, entertaining and interactive are vital and key components in winning students over. From my teaching experience at the University of Iowa, I think that the level of understanding of the subject varies from student to student. Some students grasp the subject easily while it is hard for others. Therefore I always try to teach the subject in a manner that will consider all the different levels of students and in which questions are encouraged. I have earned two MS degrees and a BS degree in chemistry in my academic career. I have two-and-a-half year experience of teaching undergraduate students at the University of Iowa. I received a very good evaluation from students which I would be happy to share with you. I have also passed SPEAK TEST along with the English Language Performance Test which is a requirement to be able to teach at the University of Iowa.
