World History is one of my top subjects! I am a double History and French major at Hampden Sydney College. I have studied a wide range of history and maintain a passion for it. I havee scored highly on both AP and IB history exams, and I continue to do well in history classes at the collegiate level.

I am most interested in tutoring French, as it is the area in which I have the most tutoring experience, but am equally competant in history tutoring. I have helped many lower level French students at my school, and I like to help people in the pursuit of learning a language as I feel it is a very important tool for modern people. I have also helped many students at my high school prepare for, and do well on, IB and AP exams in both the field of history and French.

I have been tutoring and teaching kids at varying degrees in English during my time in School. I have also tutored privately in German, adults and kids alike. I am currently looking for people who want to either advance their conversation skills, work on their pronounciation, or if they take German in school, I can prepare them for tests, based on the materials they work with.
I like to work with flash cards, books, but also a lot of oral training. I am able to provide materials depending on the learning style you are most comfortable with (e.g. oral, written, visual, audio).

Bienvenidos!

Hi! My name is Lauren Cotman. I am a middle school Spanish teacher in Chesterfield County. I have been studying Spanish since I was in the 6th grade and went on to become the President of the Spanish National Honors Society while I was in High School. While in High School, I developed a love for the language and all of the different cultures of the Spanish speaking world. I went on to major in Spanish at Bridgewater College and I was very active with the Latino population on campus and in the community. I went on to further my knowledge by studying abroad in Cuernavaca, Mexico and in Barcelona, Spain. From these two experiences I walked away with a much more impressive knowledge of the language but also experiences that I will have with me for the rest of my life. I look forward to being able to help your Spanish student develop the foundation and skills that will allow for he/she ... read more

I try to adapt to the way the student prefers. I understand that there are various ways people obtain and grasp knowledge.
I am a recent high school graduate. I graduated in the top fourth of my class. My GPA is a 3.48. My best subject is math. I enjoy helping and working with others to help them succeed. I completed a class in high school named Teach Cadet where I learned the basics about education and the importance of being a versatile teacher. I was able to work with children from head start to elementary level. I also was a member of two organizations at school where I worked with sixth graders about the importance of goals and worked with fourth graders about the importance of team work.

I have always had a passion for teaching and helping to educate people. I have earned a BS in Business Administration and a MS in Accounting. Through my education and experience I have an extensive set of business and grammar skills. I have completed four years of Latin and enjoyed it. During high school I took AP History and Government and past the AP Exam. I enjoy studying for Test Prep and enjoy helping students achieve their goals. I want to help and make a difference in each student that I tutor. I like to reach out to all of my students. I learn each of my students name and have them see that I want them to well. I also feel that students should be given assignments to work on during class and not lectured the entire time.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a graduate from Randolph College formally known as Randolph Macon Woman's College. Currently I am working on obtaining an additional degree in Chemistry. I have taken classes in advanced mathematics, biology, chemistry and physics. As a person labeled LD I understand and have developed techniques to learn material. These experiences helped me tutor others in math and science.
I believe that anyone can learn any subject if you give them the proper tools. Setting goals and meeting them is only part of the battle, Knowing what when wrong and how to fix it is the other half. Living with an LD gives me an appreciation of the time it can take to learn; and that not everyone can learn in the same way. I prefer a hands-on and organized teaching style where I can make connections to real world examples. However, I do know that each child is an individual and learns differently.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe in teaching with love, enthusiasm, compassion, understanding, excitement, and discipline. You must keep an open mind, open heart, and open arms to be truly successful. I employ a variety of educational styles in an attempt to engage all types of learners, with a heavy emphacis on hands-on activites. I am not afraid to try new whings, nor am I afraid to try again if something doesn't work out as well as planned. My teaching style is tailored to the individual. The first thing I do when I'm trying to teach someone something is determine their learning style. If they don't know it I help them figure it out. I do find that most people learn best by diving in and doing it themselves first, while I serve as a "safety net". Whenever I was teaching new helmsmen or junior officers how to steer survey lines, I would direct them how to do it the first few times, and then when they felt ready to try it themselves, I stood back and let them, not stepping in until the absolute last second. Letting them make and try to correct their own mistakes seemed to be the best teaching tool I had.
As a NOAA Corps Officer, I helped teach new personnel many facets of our day-to-day operations, from instructing new officers on getting their Officer of the Deck qualifications to preparing new survey techs for their h ... read more
