A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that in order the hlp children learn, patience is required. I am willing to take my time and make sure that of the concepts are truly learned and not just memorized. During my years in college I have learned that if something is just memorized it will not stick with you, but if you really learn and understand what is going on, you will be able to come up with the right answer every time.
I have recently recieved a BS in Biology from Fort Valley State University in May 2010. I am a graduate of an accelerated program called the Cooperative Developmental Energy Program, which is a program that focuses only on the math and science fields and also required me to earn my BS in 3 years while maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or above. In addition, I have worked as a childcare provider during the summers at a daycare center where I was required to help create and carry out lesson plans to ... read more

I have been working with children of and on all my life. My credentials are personal as well as professional. From a personal perspective, I have a child with autism for which I have spent many hours tutoring in the afternoons. I also have another daughter, who has struggled in school. I have spent many hours in the afternoons tutoring her. I also volunteered in a high school helping Special Eduacation kids in the Resource classrooms. This experience along with my education, I believe, qualifies me as a tutor.
I believe in one-on-one teaching and hands on. These to me are the best way to get through to some children. Online tutorals are a new way to reach kids and adults alike, since everything now is media based. I feel this is an effective way to reach students. I will give my best to demonstrate this way of teaching. Hands on and visually seeing also helps to accelerate t ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

What I have learned working with students is that many do not learn in the same manner. I beleive in what is called top process learning. Given the student a concept and allowing them to explore the possibilities of how one arrives at such a concept has allowed deeper critical thinking and strategic planning. However, this method is not predominately taught in Georgia education system. I have found this method to be very effective. The other method is patience. Students who strugge with their academic learning usually are having other areas of difficulty which may be social learning. Having clinical training allows me to make a more accurate assessment.
During the last 10 years I have worked with all levels of students, preschool through college levels. These areas include reading, math, english, psychology, science and social studies. I am a self starter and have worked wi ... read more

More About This Tutor...

All throughout my school years, I was a highly motivated student. I was in the accelerated programs from first grade to my senior year in high school. During high school I was not only in the accelerated english program, I also took many Advanced Placement classes and was on the accelerated math track. I was even able to finish my bachelor degree in International Affairs in three years. During my senior year in high school, I tutored my student in all of his subjects (math, social studies, science, and english). When in college, I led study groups in college and tutored a few of my fellow classmates, mainly in history and english.
I have always had an avid love of learning. I attempt to make my students love it too. I try to incorporate things the students like into the lessons (for example, I used football scoring to explain mathematic concepts to a 10 year old boy). I also am a f ... read more

Prior to earning my degree in education, I was a sign language interpreter for the Deaf. I noticed that Deaf students were not getting an adequate education so I decided to finish my degree so that I would have the ability to have more influence with my student's ability to be successful regardless of their disability. I earned my BA in education with an endorsement in English. I have also had additional education in the area of Diversity and experience in working with special needs students. I have had the opportunity to tutor adults and children in sign language, English, Social Studies and math. My strong suit is being able to assist a student in finding a way for them to find understanding in their studies.

I believe the best approach to teaching a student is first learning what kind of learner they are. This discovery guides the type of instruction I use. I also always build on a student's prior knowledge, which enhances retainment. I am very patient and believe in positive reinforcements. My ultimate goal is to make my students successful. I want to teach my students how to fish, not just give them the fish.
I have always had a passion for students, Math and teaching. I have been tutoring since I was in high school. My tutoring skills range from elementary to college. During my student teaching experience, I had the opportunity to work on a team with special education students. I had a chance to use my creativity in creating lessons that would reach each student.

A Little Bit About Me...

As an undergraduate, I was selected to be a tutor in the on-campus tutoring center, where I tutored students in all the sciences. This was where I discovered my talent and passion for tutoring and teaching. After college, I worked part-time as a para-professional tutor for a local junior college. Once I married and started a family, I used my MS in Biology to its full advantage by working part-time as an adjunct professor in Biology for local colleges.
I find that most students just don't know how to study Biology. I like to assess the students' familiarity and background with the subject and then discuss study options. Some people resond to flash cards, others to practice tests, and still more to oral quizzing. Maybe it needas to be a combination, but we work until we find a system that works. Then we tackle the subject material.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love children of all ages, including Middle School and Highschool. I do not alweats go by the book. I do what I feel is best for that particular child's learning style. I teach outside the box and encourage learning rather than straight memorization. I help children love learning.

More About This Tutor...

As a parent and grandparent, I have several years in tutoring grammar school level students. Having attained a Scientific Regents diploma in high school and taking several math courses in college, math is one of my stronger subjects. Spelling, reading are other course I have excelled in the past.
I attended private(Catholic) school from kindergarten to 12th grade and had a very structured academic lifestyle. I believe in being firm, but understanding. I believe in working until we can get it right. Though I may be the Tutor, I still believe any relationship will allow each individual to grow. Whatever the student goal is set for that is what we will attain and better if possible.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always had a passion for educating children. In the process, I have been able to observe different teachers and their methods. So I was able to form my own tutoring style and method that has worked pretty well for me and my students. I have always encouraged my students to learn by letting them have a more hands on approach and also more interactive. I firmly believe, that even with adults and more in children, in order to hold their attention, they must be interested and involved. So I strive to make my lesson plans captivating and interactive. I believe children can learn easier if they enjoy doing it.
I started tutoring in different after-school programs in New York City while in high school. I enjoyed it so much that even while in college, I continued tutoring and being a group counselor. I even had the opportunity to work with a one-on-one tutoring agency in which I tra ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I graduated Jarvis Christian College in the year 2008 with a bachelors of science degree!!! With this degree and under the tutelage of my professors, I have studied various math, biology, and chemistry courses!!! Knowing what I know, I have used my skills and talents to tutor my brothers and sisters as well as my friends and other students who has difficulties excelling in these areas!
I really have no teaching style, I believe in a hands on approach!!! I would show my pupil how to read the problem and work the problem!!! Then he or shecwould perform the next example!!! My concept reminds me of teaching the pupil and then the pupil teaches me!!! We share our views on a problem and then we reanalyze it!!!
