GED is one of my top subjects! I was a volunteer GED math and science teacher at a local community center for 2 years before I moved away for college. I also took the GED myself and was almost entirely self-taught before college. Adult learners have a special place in my heart.

I like to meet students where they're at and adjust my teaching methods based on what their aspirations and needs are.
I was not offered very many educational opportunities in my youth, but in 2016 I chose to try my hand at being an autodidact (a self-taught person). Within 3 years I went from not knowing basic arithmetic to mastering calculus 2, became a volunteer teacher, scored a 32 on the ACT, and got accepted into Ohio State University as a physics and astrophysics double major. I'm now a senior getting ready to graduate with my undergraduate degree.

Taught AP, Honors and Regent level Biology and Honors Physics at Preston High School in NY Most of my students recieved Mastery or above on state exams at the end of the year. Most of my students scored above 620 on the SAT biology subject exam. Tutored throughout my college years the subjects: Chemistry, Biology, Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology.
My methods are rather traditional. I beleive that there is no way around hard work. I will explain the problems in many different ways in order for the student to grasp a particular concept. I also am a irm believer that the more problems a student does, the better they become in doing the material.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a wide variety of experiences in and out of the classroom with all different types of learners in all different age groups. I have taught preschool, middle school, high school, and adult education classes. In addition, many of my tutor students have been in elementary school. I work best with struggling students, and they have told me and shown me that I effectively helped them. I have tutored students in math, science, social studies, and English. I am certified to teach Biology, general science classes, English, and journalism. Reading and writing have always been my strengths throughout my own studies and jobs, but Biology fascinates me.
I am a teacher of individuals. I believe that people are so different from each other that each student really needs an individualized approach. While this is more challenging in a classroom, it lends itself well to tutoring. I read ... read more

I have a BA in pol sci from Wright State University with a minor in math. Since then, I have tutored at-risk students in various programs in San Diego. I attended National University and earned a teaching certificate. I worked in a junior college in San Diego as a tutor in math, English, reading, and social studies. I went on to work in the San Diego Unified School district as a teacher's aide and as a substitute teacher. I then accepted a position at the world famous Scripps Research Institute. Since English was not the first language of many of these scientists, it was necessary for me to help edit their papers prior to submission using extensive grammatical skills. I still work hard at keeping my math and grammar skills honed.
I enjoy working with all children. We all have different learning styles and as a teacher, it is up to me to figure out the student's learning style and t ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Through my teaching experiences, I have found the method of facilitating rather than dictating, to be a highly beneficial style of teaching. My teaching experiences have taught me that if students construct their own learning experiences, they will not only retain the information longer but they will also become more confident in their abilities. In special education I also realize how important it is for a teacher to adapt their teaching to the learning styles in the environment that they are placed. I have come to realize how vital education is in the preparation for young individuals to achieve success in all endeavors set before them. I also hope to instill a desire to learn within each student

A Little Bit About Me...

I feel very strongly that every child has the ability to learn when they are given the right encouragement. While working on my Japanese minor I quickly discovered that finding a method that works for an individual student is the most important part of studying productively. I feel that my fresh, creative outlook will supplement the classroom experience well and offer alternative methods to learning that may not be available at your child's school.
While I have not tutored academically in the past, I have taught my community's equivalent of the DARE program to fourth grade classes for two years and have also taught art lessons to children of all ages.
