A Little Bit About Me...

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, in 1989. Since graduation I have worked as both a full-time teacher and a substitute teacher. I have taught full-time at five different traditional schools and Florida Virtual School. In these positions, I have taught Algebra II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Trigonometry, Analytic Geometry, Algebra I, 7th Grade Math, 8th Grade Math, Computer Applications, and various general math courses. I have also worked as a private tutor off and on since college with students K-12 and adult in all levels of math.

I have learned that I enjoy teaching when it is in a more personal setting whether one on one or small class. That is why I enjoyed post secondary classes the most. For me one of the most important aspects of teaching is the ability to build relationships with the students. It is much easier for a student to learn when he or she is comfortable and is not made to feel as if they have to compete but only do the very best that they can.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is very simple, but is one that took a long time to learn. In college you are taught everything but HOW to teach. I learned the HOW by watching my teachers and having some very good mentors. I began to ask myself, " why do I learn more from this instructor than that instructor?" No matter what the subject is, you have to learn 2 things to reach the student. One, how does this student learn. Two, you can't force the information. I feel that a student learns more and shows more excitement when they are allowed to find answers on their own. This also takes building a relationship with the student.
