I have been working with younger students since middle school as a leader at my church in the children's church summer bible school program as well as other church events. Academically, I have earned the Gold Humanism in Medicine award, thus I have a strong ability to relate and communicate with others. I've been blessed with a great ability to motivate individuals and have used this for students, patients, and my soldiers alike. I would like to use the skills I've earned to help others achieve their academic and personal potential.
I am a dual scholarship recipient and graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo. I found a lot of satisfaction in tutoring in college and felt that I was an effective teacher. My students did well in courses that they had been struggling to pass. I use a step-by-step approach starting with what the student knows and connect to everyday life experiences. This approach works particularly well in subjects like physics or chemistry. While a good test score is the goal, I may teach fundamentals so the student understands the subject. This facilitates learning and memorization.
I graduated cum laude from D'Youville College with a BS degree in biology and a minor in chemistry. At D’Youville in 2001-2003 I tutored advanced sciences.
