I believe all children can learn, but that all children learn differently. Having taught special education, I had a range of grade levels in my class. Very often the students would be spread out over three grade levels. Because of this, I am extremely good at tailoring my instruction to different levels and learning types. I try many different approaches to cater to different learning styles. Ultimately, I choose the method based on it's success and also how much the student enjoys it. Since I acquired language using primarily the conversational method, that is my basic approach to teaching. Of course there are the basics of grammar and syntax, style and such, all of which are necessary, but if you cannot open your mouth and produce an intelligible phrase, then what good is it to acquire another language? I approach this method through dialogue with my pupil - the Aristotelian method, if you will. I ask the questions, they provide the responses and I correct them on the points of grammar that are applicable to the extent situation. This, I believe, frames the lesson in a practical application, as opposed to mere rote memorization. It's the method that worked for me, so I believe in it and I use it.

A Little Bit About Me...

The importance of education has always been clear to me. I was born into a middle class family without a lot of resources. It became obvious to me that if I desired to pursue higher education I would have to qualify for scholarships and grants. I earned a bachelor degree in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Radio and Television. I was able to do voice over work at area radio stations. I wanted to earn a graduate degree so I applied to and was accepted into a gradaute program. I chose to study Education and Theology. I completed my degree in 1996. A Little Bit About Me...

Currently I am the three to five year old Sunday school teacher for my church. I enjoy this age group because they surprise me every time with their knowledge and insight. They are an enthusiastic group who want to learn and share what they know. In the past I worked as a high school history teacher, I tutored another student in US History in high school, and in 7th grade I tutored elementary school students in reading and vocabulary.
I enjoy teaching very much. My style is based on discovery method. I use a series of questions and hints to help the student probe the mind to find the answer that the student may already know.
