My style of teaching really depends on the student and his/her learning style. Different students learn in different ways. I believe it is my responsibility to find which style works best for the student(s).
First teaching job was in a school for severely autistic children. After being there for a year I taught in a residential home for boys. This was challenging but probably one of my favorite jobs as a teacher. Because of the distance from home to work (about 1-1/2 hrs.), I applied at an urban school 20 minutes from my home. My first job there was managing the Young Parents Program. This was a program for high school girls who were pregnant or had already had a child. I greatly enjoy finding a way to inspire a child to understand the problem at hand. Through from my experience in grade school and my observation of students that attend tough schools I've realized the monotonous class schedule and disciplinary philosophy of most schools deflates most student's desire to succeed.
