I've always loved interacting and working with children (through nannying, volunteering, and tutoring) but after finishing my master's degree I believe it is even more important to give children the right tools for learning early on so that they have a real chance for success in life. I believe each child has strengths and weaknesses and that both positive reinforcement and constructive feedback are necessary for success. I am easy to relate to, kind, and give students the time they need to think through what they are doing. I have an extensive background in the mass communications field. My formal education includes a bachelor's degree in journalism and a master's degeee in mass communications, both from Drake University in Des Moines. Professionally, I have written for daily newspapers and for the public relations and marketing efforts of major Iowa corporations.
I am patient, easy going and considerate. I understand that students learn in different ways, so I try to adapt my style accordingly. For example, perhaps one student learns best from oral instruction, while another prefers hands-on experience. My goal is to shape my teaching approach to best fit the needs of the student.
