There is no better of a feeling than to have a former student come back and tell you how much you helped them once they have went off to college. Showing students love and respect, as well as, treating them fair makes a difference when teaching. When students know that you care about them,that is when the student will put the best foot forward to learn.
As an undergraduate tutoring math, I realized quickly that I had a gift to explain math and make it easy for others to understand. Students generally perform better with hands-on practice. I provide multiple opportunities for hands-on and guided practice as time permits. Associate new concepts to familiar ones. Our memories are largely associative in nature. Therefore, providing connections from new concepts back to well established ones increases our retention and recall. This is especially important in building up understanding in mathematics. Provide relevant examples. A student who is actively enaged in the lesson will learn more.
